L298N Dual H-Bridge DC and Stepper Motor Driver Module

Overview

The L298N Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver Module is a staple component for robotics, automation, and smart car development. Built around the powerful STMicroelectronics L298N dual H-bridge chip, this board allows you to independently control the speed, rotation direction, and braking of up to two brushed DC motors or one 4-wire two-phase stepper motor. It serves as the heavy-duty power link between low-current microcontrollers and high-current inductive loads.

Efficient Thermal Management and Robust Control

Equipped with a prominent, black-anodized aluminum heatsink, this module easily dissipates heat generated during high-current operation, ensuring stable performance under continuous load. The module uses a standard TTL logic interface, allowing it to be controlled directly by common 5V microcontrollers. By utilizing pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals, users can smoothly adjust motor speeds with precision.

Integrated Power Management

The driver board includes an onboard 78M05 5V linear regulator chip.
  • When active (jumper in): If your motor drive supply voltage is between 7V and 12V DC, this regulator can generate a stable 5V output to power your external control logic or Arduino board.
  • When inactive (jumper out): For motor drive voltages exceeding 12V DC, the jumper must be removed, and a separate 5V logic supply must be wired in to protect the chip.
